25.01.2005 | American corner
U.S. Ambassador Lawrence E. Butler and Minister of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia Blagoja Stefanovski are opens the new “American Corner” at the City Library “Braka Miladinovci” in Skopje. This project is the result of a partnership between the Public Affairs Office of the U.S. Embassy in Skopje and the City Library. A unique feature of American Corner Skopje will be the new American Educational Center, located in the upper gallery. Educational advisors will assist students in exploring opportunities for study at the many colleges, universities and specialized schools throughout the United States. The American Corner will provide, free of charge, information to the general public about the United States through books, magazines, special publications, CD-ROMs, and the Internet. It will also host a wide variety of events, such as cultural programs and guest lectures. Membership is free and open to the general public. The American Corner is open Monday-Friday from 10:00 to 20:00 and Saturday from 11:00 to 16:00.

03.02.2005 | Observance of the opus of academic Slavko Janevski
By interpreting some of the work of Slavko Janevski, high school students form two schools marked the 85th anniversary of the birth and the 5th anniversary of the death of this academic, poet, and storyteller, writer of novels, screenplays as well as artist and groundbreaker in Macedonian contemporary literature. Vesna Mojsovska - Chepishevska spoke of the work and life of Janevski. High school students from the schools "Nikola Karev" and "Georgi Dimitrov" participated in the celebration of both anniversaries.

10.10.2005 | A new director of the Library
Since the 3rd October and according to the new legislation Filip Petrovski was appointed as a new acting director to the City Library "Braka Miladinovci"- Skopje. Filip Petrovski has graduated as a professor of Philosophy, was a Member of Parliament 1998-2001 and general consul of R. Macedonia in the USA 2001 - 2003. Since the moment of taking office at the Library he has announced an ambitious plan for complete animation of this institution, making it more available for the users - readers. Special attention will be paid to enlarging the book fund, new cultural activities as well as computerization. Interaction with all users will become paramount.

19.10.2005 | Exhibition of old and rare books
On October 19, 2005 (Wednesday) in one of the most elite galleries in the “International Art City-Paris” in Paris, France an exhibition of old and rare books from the collection of the City Library “Braka Miladinovci”-Skopje was opened. A worthy of respect collection of 88 books was displayed; the collection consists of 88 books written in Macedonian and several other languages, dating from 16th century until today. The acting director of the City Library, Mr. Filip Petrovski, was present on the opening of the exhibition, thus promoting the video material about the library and the catalogues prepared on Macedonian and French especially for this exhibition. The exhibition that already arouses great interest in the public will be displayed until 29 October, 2005.

20.10.2005 | Meeting with the Macedonian ambassador in Paris
During the visit in Paris regarding the exhibition of old and rare books, the acting director had a visit of the Macedonian embassy in France, thus meeting with the ambassador Jon Ivanovski. Generally it was agreed that the exhibition after its display in the International City, should be placed in the premises of the Macedonian embassy. This act would contribute even more for affirmation of our literary tradition outside of the borders of Macedonia.

22.10.2005 | Visit of a delegation from the foundation “JASON”
On 22nd October a delegation of two representatives from the foundation "Jason" visited the City Library. The meeting ensured the future cooperation as well as a broadening of mutual projects and programs. Thus soon there will be another donation of about ten computers for the needs of the administration and the complete computerization of the library. Furthermore, the preparations for full equipping of the "Greek Corner" are under way and the Corner is due to be opened and promoted on December 1, 2005.

24.10.2005 | Retrospective on the manifestation “White Night”
On the night of October 22, 2005 Skopje resembled a true cultural capital. The City Library "Braka Miladinovci" fully realized the planned program for this event which started with the visit of City Mayor Trifun Kostovski. In the foyer on the ground floor of the Library there was an exhibition of the newly acquired books and a part of the fund of old books. In the reading room there was a promotion of books for sale by the most renowned Macedonian publishing houses. In the foyer of the upper floor of the Library there was a literary reading and the presentation prepared for the book show in Paris was promoted. The American Corner that works inside the City Library presented itself with publications and the Italian institute "Dante Alighieri" contributed to the program with the reading of poetry in both Macedonian and Italian. The atmosphere was enriched with the wonderful sounds of a jazz band and a small surprise was offered at the end of the evening by the dancers form the ballet studio "Rebis". All in all, the library found the place it deserves and shine in all its glory. We honestly hope that such occasions will become an everyday event!

27.10.2005 | Municipal contest of young librarians
The sixth municipal contest of young librarians was held on October 26, 2005 in the Central Library "Strasho Pindzur". Thirty one students from 12 primary schools from Skopje participated. According to the points the first four positions were taken by the students as follows: Aleksandra Antevska from P.S. "Jan Amos Komenski" 5A grade (125 points), Kristina Kochovska from P.S. "Vlado Tasevski" 8B grade (125 points), Mateja Kolevska from P.S. "Jan Amos Komenski" 6B grade (124 points), Meri Fileva from P.S. "Panajot Ginevski" 8A grade (124 points). These four contestants will participate in the national contest of young librarians.

28.10.2005 | Project "Rights and participation of the youth"
The City Library "Braka Miladinovci" and the nongovernmental organization UMKA Macedonia started with realization of the project "Rights and participation of the youth" - educational project for the rights and active involvement of the young people from Skopje. As part of this project, in the City Library "Braka Miladinovci" several training activities will take place in a period of four months. Several young people from Skopje, ages 18 to 25, will gain new experiences and knowledge in the areas of law, human rights, youth participation, and preparation of youth projects and initiatives through project activities. They will also learn through specific examples from the European Union countries. "This is first important project of our institution in this area. The library as reliable educational and public institution in Skopje is responsible to provide the young people education through which they could enroll more easily in the active living and managing of the city. This is a step of the institutions toward the youth that will be very important in building more democratic and prosperous society" - says Filip Petrovski, the director of the City Library.
